	No greater opportunity, responsibility, or obligation can fall  to the lot of a human being than to become a physician. In the  care of the suffering he needs technical skill, scientific knowl edge, and human understanding. He who uses these with courage, w ith humility, and with wisdom will provide a unique service for  his fellow man, and will build an enduring edifice of character  within himself. The physician should ask of his destiny no more  than this; he should be content with no less.   Tact, sympathy and understanding are expected of the physician , for the patient is no mere collection of symptoms, signs, diso rdered functions, damaged organs, and disturbed emotions. He is  human, fearful, and hopeful, seeking relief, help and reassuranc e. 	没有人能比成为一名医生承担更大的机遇、责任和义务。对病人的照顾需 要熟练技术、丰富知识和对人性的理解。医生富有勇气、谦逊和智慧的工 作将影响他的同事并完善自身人格。一名医生的最高境界是：他是一名无 所不知的全面的人。 医生应该理智并且富有同情心和理解力，因为病人不只是症状、体征、功 能障碍、器官损害和情绪紊乱的综合体，他们是人，是充满恐惧、希望， 寻找安慰、帮助和安心的人。

	还有一句经常被人说的已经烂掉了话 The practice of medicine combines both science and art 医学实践是科学和艺术的结合。 想来确实有意义。
