He Drew a Bird--by: me
In the end of my last class today, a lot people went home. My bus number wa
sn't called yet, so I had to stay in the classroom and wandering around. I rand
omly looked at everything in the classroom and took a peek at the few people who
are fooling around.
Suddenly, a scene caught my eyes. It was him, he was drawing something on t
he whiteboard. I walked up a little and looked more closer, he was drawing a bi
rd, more like a pigeon--the symbol of peace. It's really a usual thing for peop
le to doodle on the whiteboard, but he is different.
He was from Liberia 3 years ago, Liberia is a really bad country where no on
e is safe. They didn't have police, government, even the president is an evil m
an. There are rebels everywhere, everyone have guns in Liberia, whoever has got
the bigger gun can take over one's property. There aren't any laws there too,
and that's what made the country a mess and made the rebels taking over. His da
d was a business man and the rebels' target. The rebels captured his dad and cu
tted his brother's finger off, they even ate his dog. Finally, his family could
n't stand it anymore, with only few pieces of cloth, they aboarded onto the ship
to America--the land of freedom.
Even though they escaped, but they still can't get over the pain that's been
building up inside them for years. He almost had never went to schools in Libe
ria because of his own safety, but now he is already catching up with the rest o
f us in school, and his brother is already a great soccer player in highschool.
He drew a bird on the whiteboard, expressed his feelings of being free. The
bird is carrying a piece of flower in it's mouth, it's going to deliver his bes
t wishes to his sister who is still in Liberia and waiting for help. I looked i
nto his eyes, they were sparkling with full of hope and everythig that's so spec
ial. I am glad that I saw this, it taught me a great lesson. I feel sad for hi
m, but I can't, because he is already strong enough inside and will not take my
pity.
Now, U.S sent 200 troops on a ship to Liberia, childrens were cheering for t
heir arrival and safety they are going to bring them. I am much relieved for th
em.
I am going to pray for him and all the people on earth who are suffering fro
m all kinds of things, I want the world to be peaceful everywhere, and every sec
ond.
